Emotional growth is the process every human goes through. Emotional development is often thought of as automatic and a process that should occur naturally. To function effectively, humans need to develop mentally and emotionally as well as physically. All three aspects must develop to function harmoniously and healthily.
Happiness
Emotional growth begins early in the development of a child and lasts throughout adulthood. Happiness, a basic human desire, cannot be obtained without emotional growth and maturity. Negative and immature emotions lead to unhappiness.
Feelings
For emotional growth to occur, a child needs to be taught at an early age about expressing emotions appropriately. Emotionally healthy parents will encourage their children to experience feelings and teach them the process for appropriately expressing all types of emotions.
Immature Emotions
During childhood, immature emotions will be expressed as the child learns how to grow mentally. As a child is allowed to express himself in appropriate ways, he will begin to no longer need immature actions and emotions to achieve attention.
Self Image
A toddler is able to distinguish body language and interpret the meanings emotionally; approval vs. disapproval. This is the basis for a child to begin to create a self image and learn behaviors for right and wrong.
