Benefits of Liquorice Tea

Liquorice is the extract of the roots of the liquorice plant. The extract contains glycyrrhizin which is 50 times sweeter than sucrose. Hippocrates named the herb sweet root and it has been used for centuries for myriad uses.

Respiratory Tract

Liquorice has been used since ancient Egyptian times for disease of the upper respiratory tract. Liquorice tea is used as a soothing and gentle relaxant for cough and it also loosens mucous for easier breathing.

Sore Throats

Liquorice tea is beneficial for the treatment of coughs, colds and sore throats. It helps with hoarseness and the dryness and tickling that often accompanies throat irritations.

Stomach Distress

Liquorice tea helps speed the healing of stomach ulcers and aids viral liver inflammations. It is used both for its mild laxative effects as well as for diarrhea. The Medical Journal in Ireland found it healed ulcers quicker than the drug Tagament.

Headaches and Menopause Symptoms

Liquorice tea is good in relieving the pain of headaches. It is also helpful in reducing the symptoms that often come with menopause including headaches, hot flashes and night sweats.

Diuretic

Liquorice tea is used as a diuretic. It also has the capability to reduce and suppress hunger.
