Toothache pain can be debilitating. Those who are unable to see a dentist have found home remedies can help manage the pain until the tooth can be treated. Home remedies can even be used to prevent tooth decay.

Home Dental Care

Caring for your teeth is the best home remedy for preventing toothache pain. Toothaches can occur for a variety of reasons. Bacteria can build up inside the mouth and cause tooth decay, which can lead to toothaches. Brushing your teeth right after every meal can eliminate this. A regular habit of flossing can remove the food particles caught between the teeth, which can also lead to bacteria. Frequent snacking throughout the day can build plaque on the teeth, which can lead to tooth decay. Plaque is a clear film that sticks to the teeth and is made up of microscopic germs. Rinsing the mouth after meals can be beneficial for those times when you are not able to brush.

Onion and Garlic

Onion and garlic are two home remedies that can bring immediate relief for toothache pain.
Place a clove of garlic with some rock salt directly on the tooth that is causing the pain. This home remedy is one of the most effective treatments for toothache. Rock salt kills the bacteria that is causing the infection. Garlic also has the ability to eliminate infection because of microbial agents.
Onion has antibacterial properties which may eliminate the bacteria that leads to tooth decay. Place the onion directly on the tooth to kill the germs in the mouth and alleviate the pain.

Alcohol

A tried and true remedy for toothache pain is alcohol, because it numbs the pain. Rub whisky on an aching tooth, or soak a cotton ball with alcohol and place it right on the painful tooth or gums. This home remedy produces immediate pain relief. The treatment may be effective, but you may not be able to use it at all times during the day.

Saltwater Rinse

Saltwater rinses can both eliminate tooth infection and alleviate the pain. Rinse the mouth several times a day to kill an infection that is causing pain. Eliminating the infection will reduce the inflammation that causes the pain. Salt effectively eliminates the bacteria that causes gum and tooth infections.

See the Dentist

These home remedies may provide relief from the pain of a toothache, but the pain is an indication of a problem with your teeth. There may be a cavity or a broken tooth that is responsible for the pain. Gum disease is also a serious condition that could lead to tooth loss if it is not treated.
