How Can I Connect With My Feelings?

Your emotions have an immeasurable impact on your daily life. Understanding your feelings can help you avoid bad days and conflict, as well as improve your overall mental health. It is much easier to manage your emotions when you make a point of understanding them, and emotional management is critical for handling tough situations and getting the most out of your day. You can connect with your feelings in several ways, depending on what works best for you.

Ask yourself why you feel the way you do. For example, if you are frustrated about your day at work, you may actually be unhappy with your career path, relationship or financial situation. Finding the background cause of each emotion is a helpful way to better understand it.

Set aside time each day to relax and focus on your inner self. Do yoga, meditate, or simply sit in silence for a few minutes. Time to think and process your emotions is effective and relatively simple to add into your daily routine.

Talk to someone you trust about the emotions with which you are dealing. Trying to explain your emotions to another person can help you better understand yourself, because it forces you to think hard about where your emotions are coming from.

Let yourself experience emotions when they arise. Pushing your emotions away causes them to build up, which can lead to problems down the line. If you are feeling sad, stressed, happy, frustrated, angry or sad, take a moment to let that emotion ring true, then continue with your day.
