How to Eliminate House Allergies

Over 50,000,000 people in America suffer from allergies, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Common allergies include food allergies, seasonal allergies and household allergies. People with household allergies are allergic to mold, mildew, dust, pet dander or any other substance found in a home. There are effective and simple ways to eliminate house allergies.

Eliminate House Allergies

Purchase high-quality air filters to place in the intake vents throughout your house. In addition to filtering the air through your central cooling and heating system, buy a room air filter as well. Purchase either an ionic air filter or a HEPA air filter for the best results. Be sure to dust often and keep the air filter clean and running 24 hours a day.

Kill any mold or mildew found in or around the outside of the house. Mix a bleach solution of 1 part bleach to 2 parts water for use in mildly affected areas such as the shower or under the kitchen sink. Use straight bleach for more severe problems, such as black mold around the foundation of the house or on the walkway leading up to the front door. Keep the mold and mildew under control by observing and maintaining problem areas.

Wash all linens at least once a week in hot soapy water in the washing machine to kill any dust mites or other bed bugs that can provoke allergies. Wash comforters once a week as well, or have them dry cleaned if the fabric cannot be wet-washed. Clean all areas around beds every other day with an all-purpose cleaner to prevent dust build-up and to maintain highly sanitary conditions. Run a HEPA approved vacuum three to five times a week to keep carpets free of dust and dander.

Confine all pets to one area or room of the house so that the dander is contained. Stay away from that area except when tending to the animals. It is advisable to get rid of any pets that will affect your allergies year-round.
