Choose the powdered supplement that will be right for you. Read the nutrition labels to determine what you need. Ideally, you want a product that is low in sugar, fat and carbohydrates for a protein supplement. For an energy supplement, you can expect that it will include more carbohydrates, but look carefully to be sure it doesn’t have too much sugar.

Measure powder into shaker cup and add 8-12 ounces of your desired liquid. Juice is a great option for energy supplements because it often has added vitamins that can optimize the energy potential of your shake.

Place the lid on your shaker cup and shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved. If you don’t have a shaker cup with a lid and mixing grate, you can also use a regular cup and a fork or whisk to stir and dissolve the powder.

Drink your shake. It is best to drink your energy shakes right after exercising, when your muscles are looking for fuel to repair themselves after a hard workout. You can take energy shakes whenever you feel like you need an extra boost to get through the day.

Clean your cup thoroughly before storing it. Shaker cups tend to be plastic and can absorb bacteria easily if they are not cleaned well and allowed to dry.
