Soapsuds enemas can be used to relieve constipation and cleanse the colon before medical testing or sexual activity involving the anus and rectum. Keeping a soap solution ready and on hand at all times provides you with immediate relief without having to hustle to assemble the enema solution.
Rinsing the Container
Thoroughly rinse the 2-quart pitcher or milk jug with hot water. Replace the cap if it’s a milk jug and shake to ensure the milk residue has been completely removed from the jug. Follow the same process to ensure the pitcher has been cleaned from other uses such as iced tea or other beverages.
Place the container or milk jug in the dish drain upside down so that the water flows out completely.
Let the container dry upside down for at least two hours before filling it with the soapsuds enema solution.
Preparing the Soapsuds Solution
Pour hot water into your pitcher or milk jug until it is about half full. Use filtered tap water to prevent chlorine from entering the rectum during enema administration. Instill two or three drops of Ivory dish detergent into the water. Replace the lid on the container and shake until suds begin to form in the water. If you are using Ivory bar soap, grate a half a cup of soap into the water. Put the soap flakes into the container before you add water. Ensure they dissolve completely to prevent clogging of the enema bag tubing.
Remove the lid from the container. Fill the rest of the container with water. Replace the lid on the container. Shake until the solution is thoroughly mixed and set it aside for when you need it.
Heat the water when you’re ready to use the soapsuds enema solution. You can use either a microwave or a stove-top pot. Heat the water to about 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The recommended temperature is from 98 to 103 degrees Fahrenheit. The water will lose some heat when you transfer it from the pot to the enema bag before administering the enema
Ensure the clamp is closed on the enema bag. Fill the enema bag with the soapsuds solution, preferable using a funnel. Release the clamp slowly to ensure that there is no air in the enema tubing or in the rectal applicator.
Administer the enema in the position of your choice.
