How to Prevent Blisters

Blisters are uncomfortable and painful skin conditions that can occur from harsh rubbing, chafing and other irritations. Blisters can make every day activities difficult. Thus it’s best to avoid anything that could potentially cause blisters. Prevention really is the best medicine. Here’s how to prevent blisters.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Wear comfortable shoes with extra room in the toes and heels. Avoid strappy shoes or footwear that constricts your toes. Also, wear cushioned socks with your shoes.

Rub a few strokes of Body Glide on blister prone areas such as the first and fifth toes as well as the heels. Do this on days you will be wearing less comfortable shoes.

Pour some cornstarch on your feet and rub it on the heels and toes and soles of your feet. Cut moleskin pieces to cover your heels and outside edges of your toes when wearing tight or ill-fitting shoes. This will prevent your feet from rubbing up against the inner surface and blistering.

Wet two tea bags and place them on the blister prone areas at night. Allow the tea to absorb into the skin. The tea has been shown to toughen these soft areas and help prevent blisters.

Put a bandage on if you rub against something and feel a sore spot. A tear in the skin or red soreness is the beginning of a blister. Stop it before it starts.
