The most common hair-removal product that can cause skin discolorations are hair-removal creams. These creams are products that chemically liquefy hair, allowing it to be easily brushed or scraped off your skin. There are numerous types of hair-removal creams, such as gels, lotions and roll-ons. Hair-removal creams are inexpensive and can be purchased in most drugstores. Additionally, these creams can be used at home and are easy and fast to use. However, hair-removal creams can cause rashes and prolonged discoloration (reddening). By employing all the remedies below, you can effectively treat your skin discoloration.
Consider skin lightening with a skin-bleaching product. One product that is safe to use is called kojic acid. This natural cream is derived from fungi. It is gentle on the skin and effective in treating skin discoloration. You can purchase kojic acid cream at any leading drugstore.
Apply sunblock every day. You can help your skin repair itself by applying sunblock when you go outside. The sunblock will help hasten the effects of the other treatments you are using and prevent further darkening. Purchase sunblock with a high sun-protection factor (SPF) for best results. SPF 60, which is normally used when doing sports outside, is highly recommended.
Apply lemon juice on the discolored area. Lemon juice contains natural bleaching compounds. Frequent use will gradually lighten the affected areas over time and help your skin repair itself. Cut a lemon in half, and squeeze the juice onto the skin. Gently rub for 10 minutes and let dry. Rinse after one hour. Apply the juice once a day.
Increase your ascorbic acid (vitamin C) consumption. Vitamin C will make your skin, especially the discolored area, less sensitive to the sun’s powerful rays and help repair itself. Take a 500 mg tablet once a day. You can also eat plenty of foods rich in ascorbic acid. Foods rich in vitamin C include all citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi fruit, broccoli and strawberries. Eat these foods every day.
Consult a dermatologist. The quickest way to effectively repair skin discoloration is by consulting a dermatologist. The dermatologist will be able to determine what kind of treatment is best for you. Some treatments done in the dermatology clinic for skin discoloration include chemical peeling and laser-skin resurfacing.
