Natural Remedies to Help With Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are veins located around the anal/rectum region that are swollen and protrude in small, sac-like formations from that area of the body. Causes for this problem can be attributed to such things as heavy lifting, coughing, constipation, sitting for extended periods of time, straining when trying to have a bowel movement, pregnancy, obesity or lack of fiber in your diet. Symptoms may involve burning, pain, bleeding, itching and swelling. Going to the bathroom can be very uncomfortable, due to hemorrhoids. There are a number of natural remedies that may aid in helping to bring you relief from your symptoms and assist in the healing process.

Eat foods that are rich in vitamin K, like green leafy vegetables and alfalfa, which can help stop bleeding.

Increase your daily intake of fiber. Add foods, such as broccoli, pears, apples, grains, bran and beans to your diet.

Take helpful herbs that include red grape vine leaf, buckthorn, parsley, stone root, white oak bark and fargelin, which is a Chinese herb. Consult your doctor before taking these herbs, however, to avoid any drug interactions.

Use regular vinegar and moisten a sterile cotton ball with it, then rub it in the rectum to help ease itching. You can similarly use witch hazel in this manner. Vinegar and witch hazel are both astringents.

Use aloe vera gel to help ease the pain and burning by applying it directly to the anal area.

Try adding Epsom salts to your bath and soaking in it to make swelling go down and reduce itching and burning.

Take a warm water enema to ease your discomfort and diminish swelling.
