Whether used as a cooking oil, a topical ointment or a mouthwash, sesame oil is very beneficial to human health. Although topical applications can control lice infestations, yeast infections and other maladies, internal consumption can regulate key health factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol and even hepatitis.

Blood Pressure

Cooking with sesame oil instead of other vegetable oils can lower blood pressure. Dr. Devarajan Sankar of Annmalai University in India conducted a study in which 328 individuals with high blood pressure switched exclusively to sesame oil. Within two months, all of the individuals had normal blood pressure.

Cholesterol

Both monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats are found in sesame oil. These are good kinds of fat that help reduce cholesterol.

Antioxidants

Sesame oil contains sesamol and sesamin, powerful anti-oxidants.

Disease Treatment & Prevention

Many severe, chronic diseases can be treated using sesame oil. Hepatitis, diabetes and migraines can be treated with sesame oil. It also hinders the growth of malignant melanoma.

Gingivitis

A study conducted at Maharishi International College in Fairfield, Iowa, revealed that sesame-seed oil caused an 85 percent reduction in gingivitis-causing bacteria when used as a mouthwash.
