Mint Oil for Fleas

1 minute read

By Shawn Hayes

Fleas are problematic for many pet owners. They can infest your animal, your home and, at times, even yourself. Flea bites cause skin irritation and allergies in both humans and animals. Natural flea repellents like mint oil are effective in treating fleas.

Function

Mint oil is a natural insecticide that can be used to repel fleas and prevent them from reinfesting an area.

Uses

Add mint oil-soaked tissues or cotton balls to a vacuum cleaner canister to kill fleas the vacuum picks up and also to distribute mint into the carpet for future prevention. A drop of mint oil added to pet or human shampoo treats fleas on the body and helps repel them.

Side Effects

Skin reactions to mint oil occasionally occur and include rashes, irritation or allergies.

Benefits

Using mint oil to treat fleas eliminates the need to expose your pets or family to toxic chemical insecticides, while also freshening your home, body and pets with a refreshing scent.

Considerations

Always dilute mint oil for flea control when applied to the skin of pets, as an undiluted application could be toxic if your pet ingests the oil.
