Rosehip Oil Scar Removal

Rose hip oil is an extract from the seeds of the rose hip, the berry-like fruit of the rose plant. It is known for its positive effects on the health and regeneration of the skin. It also penetrates into deep layers of the skin, making it an excellent moisturizer. For this reason rose hip oil is widely used in cosmetics and is regularly prescribed by cosmetic surgeons following surgery. One of the oil’s biggest benefits is its ability to improve the condition of skin scarred by acne, surgery, stretch marks and injury.

Reducing Scars

There are many different techniques available to reduce the visibility of scars, including surgery, compressive garments, and the use of injected steroids or silicone fillers. Rose hip oil is an easy, inexpensive, non-invasive method for reducing unsightly scars. It contains a host of nutrients which have proven beneficial to the skin, such as oleic, linoleic, and linolenic fatty acids; tretinoin, a derivative of vitamin A; and vitamin E. Vitamin A and vitamin E are known for their antioxidant properties, which is essential in protecting skin cells from UV light, pollution, the effects of poor diet, and other elements that produce cell-damaging free radicals. These nutrients found in rose hip oil are able to regenerate the skin and help rebuild skin structure. Rose hip oil has been shown to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes such as scars, to the point where they virtually disappear. However success with rose hip oil can vary, depending on the age of the scar, its location, skin color and type, and the age of the person.

Application

Head to your nearest drugstore or health store to purchase some rose hip oil. Check the label closely, as some so-called oils are simply scented vegetable oil or small amounts of rose hip oil mixed with other cheaper oils. Using your fingers, apply a few drops to the scarred area twice a day, every day. Massage gently with your fingers to help break up scar tissue and promote strong blood circulation. Feel free to apply the oil for as long as you wish, as there is no danger of over-use when used externally. Rose hip oil is commonly used on an ongoing basis for general skin health and as an anti-aging measure.

Rose hip oil can be used on old or new scars. It can even be applied immediately after the healing process for burns and other wounds to prevent scarring. Additional benefits include improvement of skin tone and color, and increased skin elasticity.
