Even thin women develop cellulite and can end up feeling as if they should not go outside in shorts or a bathing suit. Fortunately, there are plenty of natural remedies for the condition.
Exercise
If you do cardiovascular exercises like cycling, yoga, and water aerobics, excess fat cells will begin to burn off and connective tissue will strengthen. Adding two to three strength-training sessions to your weekly routine will help build muscle and improve your overall body composition, according to a study performed by Wayne Westcott, Ph.D., fitness research director at the South Shore YMCA in Quincy, Mass., and the author of “No More Cellulite”.
Diet
Combining your exercise regimen with a healthy diet will help produce optimal results. Reduce your intake of saturated fat and sugar. Replace them with fresh foods full of nutrients. In general, a diet rich in fiber and low in fat is the best way to combat cellulite. Soy, blueberries, nuts, whole grains (such as oats and rye) are excellent additions to a cellulite-fighting diet. Make sure your diet also contains plenty of glucosamine, Vitamin B, and essential fatty acids.
Lifestyle Changes
Cut back on alcohol, coffee, and cigarettes. They are known to release free radicals in the body and put pressure on the lymphatic system. When the lymphatic system is in jeopardy, toxins are less likely to leave the body and the appearance of cellulite becomes more pronounced.
Reduce Fluid Retention
Fluid retention can contribute to cellulite. Cut down on sodium intake and drink eight glasses of water each day in order to flush your system out. When your body contains excess fluid, the fluid will work its way toward water-attracting cells. These cells are located in areas where cellulite may be noticed, and when they are full of water, cellulite becomes pronounced.
Massage
Treat yourself to a massage. There are spa reduction treatments specifically tailored to reducing the appearance of cellulite. Lymphatic drainage massage and Endermologie (a mechanical roller treatment) are two of them. At least invest in a body brush or exfoliating product that will help increase circulation and break down fat cells, and spend a few minutes each day massaging a cellulite cream into your skin.
